I am fascinated by them—because I am one. I have a twin sister. We are fraternal, which means we don't look alike. Twins are pretty popular in my family. I am one of five sets on my Mom's side and one of two sets on my Dad's side. We also don't skip generations, like what the "old wives' tales" lead you to believe.
All the twins born in my family are fraternal. There are two sets of boy-girl twins and the rest are fraternal twin girls. We were all born a few weeks early and healthy except for one set that were born in 1983. They were born at about 33 – 34 weeks' gestation, around 4 pounds each, and underdeveloped. They spent about 10 days in the NICU and then were released home. While growing up, I watched every show on Twins and Multiples, only to further my education by working for a company that specifically specialized in High-Risk Pregnancies. This company provides services to moms that will enable them to bring their babies to term while staying at home instead of having to be hospitalized away from their homes and families. It was rewarding to know that the company I worked for brought so many quints, quads, triplets, twins, even a couple of sextuplets, and many singletons to term or at least to a gestational age where the NICU stay was minimal. I Believe in Health because if it weren't for new-age modern technology and modern medicine, we wouldn't be able to continue to have healthy babies or even start our families while in our 40's, since this generation wants the career first, family second. |
